Pearce Robotics FTC Mentor "Guidelines"

Mentors are fairly hands off in the FTC Build Season. we do work with them in the start to get them started (over come the "Tyranny of the Blank Page"). as a mentor your ob it to keep them focused on the process of making a good robot, not in making a good robot.

• Focus on The Process
• Focus on the students having an enjoyable time
  • a broken robot is not enjoyable
• Focus on building skills
  • meet them where they are and try and push them to improve or learn something new
  • push them towards training
• Work with the team leaders for robot quality and consistency
• Work with the team members for teaching them a process or tool
  • Rent a Mentor - for a day you become a basic team member of a team.
    • You are just an extra pair of hands
    • Work with a student(s) of that team
  • Don't design
    • Only do the task you were explicitly assigned
    • Go back to the team leader once you are done for your next task
• if a team gets stuck they can call on us to work with them through the problem.
  • you can suggest items to think about
  • try and help them boil down the problem to a root cause
  • try and keep them thinking about the end goal
  • focus on the process
